Job Description

The Veterinary Emergency Clinic located in the heart of Downtown Toronto has exciting opportunities for Registered Veterinary Technicians.

We have an excellent 12-week training and mentoring program that is focused on preparing new technicians graduates as well as experienced RVT's for work at an emergency and referral center. All new hires are guided through this training program directly under the guidance of our Floor Manager and/or Head Technician. During this 12-week period, you will cover all necessary skills and technical knowledge to succeed in your career. The 12 weeks can be broken down as follows: Week 1-4 are an introduction to basic patient care. Week 5-8 introduce more complex cases. Week 9-12 introduces the new technician to ER Triage.

A few highlights on our training program:

  • Basic and complex math calculations for dosing of various drugs including, but not limited to, analgesics, sedatives, emergency drugs, and vasopressors
  • Weekly introduction to patient care in our various specialty departments including internal medicine, surgery, and neurology
  • Advanced technical skills training including nasal line placement for delivery of oxygen and naso-gastric enteral feeding/medication administration, transient and indwelling urinary catheter placement, blood products administration
  • CPR and skills workshops (included during your training period)
  • Access to online resources and videos

Key Qualifications

  • Veterinary Technician Diploma and RVT’s status (or ability to obtain registration through the OAVT)
  • Passion for animal care
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Comfortable working in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to work independently and in a team based environment
  • Ability to pro-actively manage multiple priorities
