Zymeworks is proudly headquartered in our brand new, net-zero facility located in the vibrant Main St biotech hub of Vancouver, BC, with operations in Seattle, WA and Dublin, Ireland. We offer a hybrid work environment with most team members working in-office three days per week.


Key Responsibilities

  • Create and support large custom scientific applications within the Zymeworks ecosystem to aid the functionality of the end users
  • Design services and applications that are modular, scalable, secure and meets the target architecture
  • Collaborate with scientists and bioinformaticians to condense complex requirements, design prototypes, and deploy production grade software and third-party tools for internal users
  • Participate in peer code reviews, regression testing, and systematic deployments
  • Integrate and maintain the developed software as part of the entire computational platform
  • Experiment with new technologies and ideas to enhance the maintainability, simplicity, and robustness of our internal platform
  • Create browser-based visualizations, user interfaces for web applications, and data analysis tools tailored to our scientists' R&D needs

Education and Experience

  • 3 or more years of industry experience in backend/full-stack development

Skills and Abilities

  • Proven ability to assume ownership of a software application including design, implementation, and maintenance
  • In depth knowledge of backend technologies in at least one of the following languages: C++, Cython, Java, Python, Go
  • Must have proven ability working with APIs and Microservices
  • Ability to deliver rapid, iterative prototypes from initial ideas, and a drive for software development excellence
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Must have proven ability in a collaborative environment with cross functional teams.
  • Hands-on experience in cloud-based technologies (AWS, Azure, Google cloud)
  • A good grasp of web standards and browser technology (HTTP, HTML, JS, CSS)
  • Experience with our software stack or equivalent technologies
  • Proficiency in English, spoken and written

Our Platform

Our software platform includes the following technologies:

  • Go and Elixir for server development
  • Python for scientific applications and modelling software
  • PostgreSQL and SQLite databases
  • Git for version control and GitLab+Jenkins for source code management, CI/CD etc
  • Elm for webapp frontends and visualizations
  • Javascirpt and React for some legacy web applications
